...AND HOW ABOUT

Channel 4's lead-up coverage...they actually had a countdown to Kwame clock going, lol. Could this whole thing have been a bigger circus? Like it was New Year's Eve and the ball was about to drop and Hootie and the friggin' Blowfish would come out to play. There was so much wrong with this speech tonight it is almost too tiring to begin. I was reading some of your comments from the last two hours since Kwame spoke. One of you brought up all his references to God and faith. Where was that reverence when you placed your hand on a bible in a court of law and swore you'd be telling the truth Kwame? What about where he says "the four people he loves most in the world", his three kids and his wife. How does that fit with the texts to his former chief of staff that he was 'madly in love' with her? Why did he need to tell us how for the first time in his life he had to sit his twelve year old down and have a very adult conversation about all this? That was designed to make us feel sorry for him again. To play the victim again. Just like the constant mentions of how if any of us has an affair it isn't front page news, and how this is a private matter. To play the victim. I hope people are smarter than this. How many times do we all have to scream this to the city of Detroit...

IT IS NOT ABOUT THE AFFAIR

...it is about all the abuses of his power and corruption of our justice in covering up that affair. Everything innocent cops had worked for in their careers, careers in which they put their lives on the line, was destroyed. On purpose. By the mayor. Who cared more about himself than innocent servants of Detroit. And this guy spoke tonight of how hard he works for Detroit? What about that part where he said this past weekend was the first weekend since 2002 that he cleared his whole schedule to do nothing but spend time with his family? We're supposed to feel how hard working he was from this statement? Couldn't we just as easily thought about all the nights he spent fucking Christine Beatty that he could have been at home with his family? And how about when he practically demands the media leave his wife alone. So she can get the perks of being Mrs. Mayor when it comes to things like the Navigator, but God forbid a reporter dare ask her when she knew about the affair and did she know prior to her husband lying under oath. I'd like to stay in the Detroit area, but if this guy should be re-elected after this I will seriously question my decision, for what kind of future could an area have when the self-respect isn't there.

KWAME SPEAKS

It is pathetic. He actually played the victim. And he has his wife at his side to also speak and help save his ass. He not only spoke of how other people cheat and they get to deal with it privately but in his case it is front page news, but then she goes on to say the same. Completely designed beginning to end to paint them as victims. Completely pathetic. I said when this first broke that this would be lost to the salacious details and the focus would be misplaced. This is not about the cheating. This is about the perjury, the obstruction of justice, the purposeful destruction of the careers of innocent police officers to hide his affair, the wasting of millions of dollars from an already cash starved city...and this bastard has the balls to say how hard he's working for you in Detroit? He wouldn't address these things of course. Said how for legal reasons he wouldn't at this time. Which of course proves the rest of their speech was bullshit; that what matters at the heart of this case isn't a private matter at all but a very public one. Pathetic.

KWAME TO SPEAK TOMORROW NIGHT

His chief of staff/hotel room biaaatch, Christine Beatty, already announced her resignation. So what's Kwame going to say tomorrow night? Maybe where he's going to say it will give us a clue. From a church. Oh brother. At 7:30 tomorrow night he'll make a speech from Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ. This ought to be good. Channel 4 says they've learned he will NOT announce his resignation. Anything short of that will be laughable. Will he play the poor me card and wrap himself in religion to hide from this? Who knows, but what a great time this would have been to be on the air.

KWAME CAUGHT!

Here's the story: http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080124/NEWS05/801240414&th

So as all intelligent people already could tell, he lied. He clearly lied under oath. And that's the point of this story. Things go wrong in relationships all the time and many people stray and do things they wish they hadn't. BUT this isn't about that. This isn't society being holier than thou and throwing stones from glass houses. This is about a mayor who knew he was lying and allowed a cash strapped city to spend millions of dollars defending his actions in court. I hope this doesn't get bogged down in the salacious nature of what's come out, because the real crime here is perjury, committed by a sitting mayor of city that deserves better. Kwame, you are a punk ass bitch. This is why I wouldn't shake your hand at the Maxim party at Super Bowl. I hope there's a dead stripper laughing at you from heaven.

CLINTON HAS HIS OWN DREAM

Here's the video of Bill Clinton falling asleep during an MLK speech. Notice at the very end how he looks at his watch. http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/79852/

THE WAR

What a joke. Take a look at this. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5ilEvmNkMwodj0jDtAWgNtOWmaRzQD8UBB2UO2 In many ways nothing new, but when you see the actual count of false statements which led us to war it has to piss you off. It is even broken down by number of false statements, polite for lies, from Bush, from Colin Powell, let alone the total, and we're talking in the hundreds. How do we in media not feel a little guilty? I've always pointed out that I was not a journalist. Even the journalists bought into these lies, and I certainly did as well for a time. I suppose we all need to re-learn the lessons of Watergate and question authority even more. Beyond sad that you can't trust these so-called leaders. They lead us alright. Just look around at where we are.

LOL

Guess I was tired when I wrote "hear" instead of "here" in the Pleshette post below. A 'friendly' spellcheck comment pointed it out, lol. But speaking of comments, note one of the comments regarding the passing of Suzanne Pleshette. I believe it may genuinely be from none other than Bill Doyle. In any case, it is very funny, sick, and Doyle-like.

DOYLE AND SUZANNE PLESHETTE

As if things were not bad enough. Now the latest tragedy that Bill Doyle is dealing with. This is the woman who was, of course, his secret love interest for years, which he all but revealed on our show. He of course would never publicly speak of his time in the green room on the set of Tattletales with the avuncular Ms. Pleshette, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Go hear to read of Doyle's heartache. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080120/NEWS08/80120002/1038/ENT03In lieu of flowers Doyle is asking for people to send either gamer troughs or make a donation to the R.A.S.P.Y. society (really aging suzanne pleshette yowling). Our thoughts are with him at this difficult time.

DEATHPOOL DAVE

Heard from our old morbid friend. He sent me this email on the death of chess champ Bobby Fischer. I especially love joke number 2!

Bobby Fischer:
1 You can stop searching for him now.
2 We had dinner with him once. It took the bastard two hours to pass the salt.
3 Check mate.
4 Digging for Bobby Fischer
5 The guy stood in the doorway, bragging about how good he was. We had to leave – I can’t stand a chess nut boasting in an open foyer.

And then there’s Brad Renfro – I carried that druggie bastard for 3 years before I took him off the list because he cleaned up and was working again. 75 points I’ll never see. It’s a brutal game dude…

Will you hurry up and get a gig so I have somewhere to tell these jokes?

Be well…

Always good to hear from Deathpool Dave. Brad Renfro I believe was in Apt Pupil if you saw that movie. We had Dave on the show in its final months and here is a great website where you can buy his book and his c.d.. www.dpdave.com They are both well worth it, seriously. The book is all about how he got into the Deathpool games, some very funny stories of celebrity run-ins, stories about a lot of his songs, and a lot about Dave himself that you would never guess. There's a lot more to the guy than you know and his book is great. The c.d. is very funny as well, with the exception of a song called American Soldier...very serious song, unbelievably well written, radical departure from his usual sarcasm and the most requested song I think we ever had on the show. If you liked the D&D show you should visit www.dpdave.com and buy this stuff and help out a great friend of D&D.

E-MAIL

In case you didn't notice both Bill and I have our direct e-mail links on this site. Look to the right margin under links if you didn't catch it before. I'm still backlogged on e-mail and while I have been answering them, please don't be put off if it takes me awhile to answer yours.

As far as any other updates, all I can say right now is there are a few possibilities brewing that we are looking at but they are of course out of state thanks to that non-compete. If we do accept one of them we'll certainly post it here and let you know how you can listen online.

Oh, I talked to Rudy the other day who is for now anyway working at his brother-in-law's medical office full time. I mention it because of something funny he said. "You know how I feel?" Picture drawn out slacker Rudy voice. "You know at the end of Goodfellas when Henry Hill goes into witness protection and he's living a normal life and says how he misses the action? Pretty much like that."

But remember, the real Henry Hill eventually came out of witness protection.

CAR TECHNOLOGY

Take a look at this story. http://info.detnews.com/redesign/blogs/autoshowblog/index.cfm?blogID=263
Then tell me, is all this a good idea? I know on the surface it is, but I can't get past feeling that all this tech they are putting into our cars will only dumb down drivers even more. This has been proven with back up alarms and cameras; people over rely on them and pay less attention. Plus do we really want another nag alarm in our cars yelling at us like a backseat mother-in-law that we took our eyes off the road for a second? May try to get down to the auto show this year now that I have some free time. The funniest year broadcasting from the auto show was when we were handing out those D&D calendars to listeners and they made us stop because they decided we were handing out pornography. Anyone who saw those things could tell you there's been worse on billboards, lol.

COUPLE MORE THINGS, LOL

Obviously I'm new to this, but one thing I've learned quickly is everyone has an opinion on everything, lol. I just want to clear something up. When I heard Gregg Henson was no longer with his station in Austin I posted it and wished Gregg and his family well. Then there were a ton of comments I did NOT allow up which were really nasty and a lot telling me how naive I was for wishing Gregg well when he allegedly said bad things about my old show, etc., etc.. Next I post something saying look, I've read your comments, I know about a lot of this already, and it didn't matter. I wasn't trying to say I believed everything I'd heard, but my point was I like the guy and I think he's very talented. The station was at its best when we were all there together. Then THAT seemed to touch off something too. Geez! For cryin' out loud, Gregg and I have no beef. He's already said it on his blog, which is terrific by the way www.gregghenson.com, and I'm backing him up. I have no beef with him. I like him. He was to my house for a party. We and the wives went out to dinner when Stacee was pregnant. And Gregg if you're reading this I DO agree with you about the old DFN thing; especially at that point we would not have been the right fit. I didn't go by their office a whole lot mostly because I didn't want to bother them and I guess because I've always had this shy thing that says 'no one really wants to talk to you'. So for the last time, don't give me a hard time just because I don't hate Gregg. I don't know why everyone wants radio to be even more competitive and cutthroat than it already is. Our shows were always different, and we are different, but that's not a bad thing. So yes I think it sucks he's not in radio right now and I wish him well. Can we all just leave it be?

Mina had her 1st birthday party last night and Stacee and I are pretty exhausted. Just cooking all day, cleaning all day, pulling chairs up from the basement and tables in from the garage....you guys know the drill...enough to wear you out. She was a cutie but of course I'm biased. Trying to get the grandmothers to control their gift giving is a challenge. I wonder if I'll be lucky enough to work here in Detroit again and keep my kids here. Don't know why I'm so stubborn about it with the economy the way it is, but I really want to stay. I hope Michigan gets better and finds new industry and that my kids can grow up here. Days like yesterday make you think about it more.

COUPLE THINGS

Got some messages asking why I'd be saying nice things about Gregg Henson when he's said bad things about me, some according to the messages even behind my back. Everything that some of you told me I already know. I know the things he's said, and I don't care. I don't wish someone well or think someone is talented only because they like me. Even if Henson doesn't, I still wish him well. I still think he's talented. It is just that simple.

Personal note. My daughter Mina took her first steps today. I was upstairs cleaning a bathroom so I missed it. But she got in a few more that I saw and as any parent knows it is a weird and great moment. You wonder about where those steps will take her. You wonder about the angry steps she'll take leaving certain rooms, and the excited ones she'll take entering others. Mina turns one year old in a few days so we're getting the house cleaned top to bottom for a party.

Terrible tanker crash on 75 today. The trucker died, a fireball caught on camera, a house below the highway burned out. Is it just me or do the most life changing moments happen the fastest and seemingly out of nowhere? For all our planning and struggling to stay on course, our real course just finds us anyway. Enough philosophical bullshit. I obviously need some sleep. Goodnight.

GREGG HENSON

I do not know if this is true, but I came home from shopping at Meijer tonight to some email asking about rumors that Gregg Henson had been fired from his station in Austin, TX. As most of you know, Gregg and I worked together at the old 97.1 back when it was good. I think the time he and I were both there was the station's heyday. If this is true I feel sorry for Gregg because he's had to bounce around quite a lot the last two years. I know he and his wife Nikki and his kids Noah and Cooper were settling in nicely there in Austin, and he's been through some personal losses in these last few years too which I'm sure has made it all the tougher to be away from his home state. Hopefully this is just an ugly rumor in which case I apologize if I'm helping to spread it. But if it is true I wanted to get word out so all Gregg's fans could send some positive thoughts his way.

COMMENTS

I was reading some of the comments from the Hillary post and the last one really made me laugh. Someone says "did you hear the guy in the background chanting iron my shirt" over and over at Hillary Clinton. I don't know if this was from her 'welling up' episode...I'd doubt that since it seemed quiet and somber in that background...or more likely some other recent appearance. But if that's true, I don't care if you're a sexist or a feminist or anything in between, that's f'ing hysterical. It is like a Borat deleted scene. Another comment made me wonder if people got the wrong idea of what I'd written. I fully believe a woman is capable of leading this nation if it is the right woman. My beef was with media for making a female candidate appear weak by asking her "how do you do it?", being on the road and campaigning so hard, something I believe they would not have asked a man. A female president, a black president, a gay president, don't care as long as they are the right person. But as Chris Rock pointed out, just because your husband did the job doesn't mean you can do the job. Put his wife out on stage and she won't make anybody laugh. Oh, check out this old Chris Rock clip from about a year ago about the election. Funny stuff: http://zennie2005.blogspot.com/2007/03/chris-rock-on-barack-obama-and-hillary.html

NEW HAMPSHIRE

So here's Clinton fighting for her life. Almost crying on tv the other night. God I want so badly for her to lose, if only because she seems so stunned by Iowa. That sense of entitlement to be wiped off her face was great. But did anyone notice something? All media outlets made this HUGE deal out of her "welling up" when a reporter asked her about the rigors of campaigning with the question "How do you do it?". She of course went on to talk about how personal it was, how she's trying to save the country after all it has given her, blah blah blah. But wasn't it insulting to women that a reporter would even ask this? It just doesn't seem like something a male would have been asked or at least not in the same way. Why not ask her who she sends out for her Tampax when she's on the road. Well okay, she's too old for that, but you get my drift. The question itself just seems to be assuming a weaker sex in my opinion. And just how many times did they have to replay that video of her "welling"?! The number of playbacks rivaled the Rodney King beating. Also I saw a speech the other night and the signage in the background had something which bothered me. It didn't read CLINTON...it read HILLARY. Would a man running for office go by just RON or MITT or JOHN on a sign? Very Cher of you, but if you want to be taken seriously let's not be so cutsie. Or are you just trying to distance yourself from the old connotations of stained blue dresses and such? I don't know. All I know is be very careful if you plan on taking part in the Michigan primary which was moved up of course, and as a result the rules are completely crazy. Writing in Obama or Edwards will not count as a vote against "Hillary", only writing "uncommitted" will count. Check http://www.wwj.com/pages/1441507.php for more info. It is a mess.

RUMORS

I don't know where they start, but it always makes me laugh when I'm the last one to hear them. There were rumors even months ago that Bill and I were going back to our old FM Talk station New Jersey 101.5. Then the rumor was that I was going there alone without Bill, which I wouldn't do. Then I heard an L.A. rumor. Many others. The latest is people have emailed me through the Yahoo D&D group about our taking over this show or that show in town. Again, when we decided not to take the offer from CBS (oh, and speaking of rumors we were not fired, we turned down an offer because we felt it was too long under the circumstances and climate of the station) we knew we would be unemployed. We knew we would have to wait one full year because of a non-compete clause in our contract before we could broadcast in Detroit again. So the truth is I have no idea what I'll be doing one month from now or one year from now. Kind of a surreal feeling, but a feeling of freedom too.
Huge thanks to Mike Novak our lawyer/agent by the way! He's helped us through a pretty bleak period and is one of the most honest guys in his business. We'll be working with him the next few months to sort through some things and of course check back here for updates/random thoughts/or even great cutting edge comedy like this: http://video.aol.com/video-detail/the-monkey-bar/4283103834

WELCOME

WHY AM I DOING THIS?
No, not because I'm out of work and bored. Actually with a two and a half and a one year old at home I'm not bored at all. The best fans any show could ever ask for had formed a D&D fan group under Yahoo groups years ago and I've always tried to steer clear of these sorts of things but had finally joined that group to keep people updated about two months ago when the writing was on the wall. Since we could not come to an agreement with CBS many listeners from that group have asked that I open up some sort of site simply to post updates, so here it is. This is NOT going to be flashy. This will be one of the most boring sites ever made. It is just a way to keep in touch and you guys of course can post comments here too. No advertising will be done. I'm not trying to make any money off this whatsoever.

The first update I want to give is about the situation of Rudy's firing. I won't rehash the whole thing here, but regarding my post under the Yahoo group about the callous way Rudy Desantis was let go...
I was contacted by both Bill McAllister and Jay Towers concerning that post. They are both very angry that I posted it. Bill says he never received an email from Rudy (at the time I thought he had) but did acknowledge getting the voicemail in which Rudy wanted to know if there was a place for him. Jay acknowledges he is the one who got the email from Rudy asking the same, and Rudy tells me he also left two voice mails for Jay as well, all asking about keeping a job. Both said more or less they didn't think it was a big deal that they never gave Rudy any type of response, and of course you know how I feel. In fairness I wanted to note the corrections.

But here's the thing. I also was told some of our old listeners are pranking their new show. Please, PLEASE don't do this. No show deserves that. And I also don't want any of our old listeners to feel they must boycott the show or boycott the station. If you like the show, listen to it. If you don't, do what you want. Same for the station itself. I do not hate those guys. In fact much the opposite, which is why I felt so deeply hurt for Rudy. In fact I had given congratulatory messages to both of them as soon as I'd heard they had gotten the show. I'm not going to have anything more to say about CBS or about the new morning show, and what I said before in the press, I meant, that I wish the company and the station well, and I still mean that for Jay and Bill too. I honestly mean that. At the same time I was heartbroken at how Rudy was let go, because he worked for me, he was one of my guys, and I don't care nearly as much about what someone does to me as I do about what someone does to one of my guys. So please, don't try to stand in the way of any one's show. Bill Doyle and I will be just fine, whether we work in this business again or not, we'll be fine.

As for Beaver, many of you asked if he is still working there. No, he is not. I don't know if anyone ever bothered talking to him. I know his contract ran out and he is no longer working there. That's all I know. My gut tells me he has had it with broadcasting and probably won't do it again. We got together for drinks one night after it was all over, and I told the guys how much they meant to me. I actually got Beaver to allow me to hug him. Those of you who know the show know how amusing that is. Beaver who never wanted to have emotions let alone talk about them, letting a co-worker hug him goodbye, lol.

So yes, we're gone from CBS, and I wish the new show well, the new station well, and the company well. We still cannot work on air in Detroit for the calendar year of 2008. The only update I can tell you right now is Bill and I are looking into some things out of state. Should that happen it would still be nice to come back here when we can. We'll see. Nothing much new to report I know, but the new year is only days old.

I hope you all had great holidays and mild new year hangovers. I will absolutely keep in touch here so let people know of this site. Thanks for so much support. Just like the 8 and a half years we spent together, it means the world to me.

New Web Home For D&D

Welcome to the New Offical Deminski and Doyle Blog
