PALIN VS. BIDEN TONIGHT

Sure, this promises to be entertaining. Biden who's known for using a thousand words when ten would suffice vs. Palin who can't seem to find the right words ever. When I first saw Palin give her speech at the RNC I was actually a bit impressed. Then we learned how full of shit she is, like the Bridge To Nowhere for example. And her very limited interviews since have proven she's way over her head. Many of her answers to relatively simple questions have been incoherent.

But...

what bugs me is so many people treating her with kid gloves and acting like media should 'back off'. The McCain camp has been limiting her exposure to interviews by design because they know she can't keep up. For so many Americans to act like 'it's only the vice-presidency; it's a do-nothing job anyway' is absurd.

Do they realize she'd be that cliched heartbeat away from the presidency, and under a man who'd be the oldest elected and who has a history of cancer?

Also, consider this. We've had 43 presidents including our current president. 9 times the vice-president has had to step up and assume the presidency. 43 presidents. 9 times. That's huge! Four of the nine was due to illness (Harrison died of pneumonia in 1842 making John Tyler president, Taylor in 1850 bringing in Fillmore, Harding of a heart attack in 1923 ushering in Calvin Coolidge and Roosevelt's death bringing in Truman). You could argue we have much better medicine now. But 4 more of those 9 were due to assassination. Lincoln to Andrew Johnson, Garfield to Arthur, McKinley to Teddy Roosevelt, and Kennedy to Johnson. That's almost 10 percent of the administrations. That's huge. The last one of the 9 was when Nixon resigned by the way.

So my point is let's not discount the serious nature of tonight's debate and certainly not the importance of asking how qualified these two really are to assume the presidency. History has taught us it happens all the time.

Your comment about the vice president choice being important is right on. The idea that we should choose who the potential second-in-command should be by market research, rather than fittingness for the job, is painfully obtuse. Should be the most entertaining VP Nom. debate since Edwards/Cheney. Hopefully, she's exposed like an SNL sendup.

Welcome back, btw.

Politics is a no win situation, if you're completely qualified as has been the case-people hate you. If you're under qualified, people hate you. I'm so burnt out on all of this. The bombardment of media on politics and EVERYTHING in general has just shut me down. ps. we get it Tina Fey, you do a good impression, now please go away.

Without Tina Fey, SNL is just one unfunny skit after another until the Andy Samberg musical parody - which is hit or miss, too.

Two things make SNL political humor funny; if the impression is spot on (Hammond's Clinton, for one) and if the audience is up on the current events being sent up. In a way, Fey's impression at least gives you a reason to watch/read/surf the news, if only to be 'in on' her take.

I totally agree with you, Jeff. And it seems to me that Biden is in a no-win situation here. If he tones it down, the spin will be "Look how good Palin did against a seasoned politician!" and if he goes for the throat the perception will be "Binden seemed mean." Ridiculous.

After watching that debate, I'm even less confident in her ability to lead this country if something was to happen to McCain. She's been kept away from the media as much as possible because she's so STUPID! I felt watching the debate that they had her locked in a room somewhere, cramming for this debate. You could tell they had certain topics and phrases they thought were "smart and witty" and she tried to work those into her answers, even though many times they had absolutely NOTHING to do with the question asked. I'm surprised she's a governor to tell you the truth. She comes across as some Yu-pper "Mrs. Cleaver". She's a nightmare.

That debate made my stomach hurt. I was out at Target last night and listened to the debate on Sirius (CNN) and was absolutely disgusted by both of them. Then when I got home and was watching it, it was even worse!! Biden didn't seem to say much and more than once Palin said (to the effect of) "My opponent and I both seem to agree on that issue." What she was doing was pandering to the non-committed voters. She might as well have said We agree. I'm prettier. Vote for me!! I was just disgusted by both of them!!

Hey that's awesome - I was just wondering what the unemployed radio guy thought about the current political situation. Maybe we'll get lucky and Madonna, Alex Baldwin, Sean Penn, Matt Damon, George Clooney and a bunch of other uneducated, unqualified individuals will tell us what to think too.

Jeff, as always, your comments are right on! The prospect of Palin becoming President if something happens to McCain scares the living HELL out of me. Palin may be "O.K." for Alaska (or a goofy talk show), but she is in NO WAY qualified (or in my personal opinion, INTELLIGENT enough), to potentially run this COUNTRY. The mere thought of it is absurd and HORRIFYING.

Anyone that can watch Palin's interview with Katie Couric and be impressed is delusional. And in Thursday's debate, she did NOT answer many of the questions directly, and those that she did answer were rambling and littered with her "gosh-darnits". She sounded like a teenager giving "beauty pagent" answers.

Regardless of how people are trying to "spin" her performance, every online poll I've seen shows Biden as the clear winner of Thursday's debate by a wide margin. No, Biden is not perfect, but he's sharp, knows diplomacy, negotiation, and how to work with his colleagues. THAT'S what matters in this election, not how "hot" a candidate is. I can't believe the discussions I've heard about her hair and her glasses... WHO CARES? Is that really where America's priorities are when it comes to possibly the most important election of our time? I sure hope not. Hopefully the good Lord will watch over us during these crazy times...thanks for reading.

I say agree with one above. Can Tina Fey leave please. Word is she will be back tomorrow night AGAIN. Come on.

Jeff you should educate yourselfmore on Palin's gubernatorial record. She has done a great job as executive. She is middle America with a heart and the only one not corrupted in this election. No one, unless an incumbent, knows exactly how to do the job.

I would hardly say the media has treated Palin with kid gloves. Liberalbig media have dragged her through the mud and whined because she wont give them the time. Get over it.

Anyways, you should vote for Obama. Seems about right.

Jeff, welcome back! As usual, your comments are right on! It gives us all something to think about as it relates to Vice Presidential candidates. The thought of Palin being a heartbeat away from running this country is HORRIFYING to me. She may be O.K. for Alaska (or hosting a silly talk show), but she is in no way prepared to be Vice President.

Did anyone else see Palin's interview with Katie Couric? That was frightening. Honestly, she sounded like a teenager during a beauty pagent question and answer session.

And the debate? Good Lord. If you watch the debate again...I mean REALLY watch it, Palin did not directly answer most of the questions. And the ones she did answer were rambling. I know Biden is far from perfect, but he's smart, he knows diplomacy, and he also gave answers that were thoughtful, and more importantly, answers with SUBSTANCE.

I'm sick of hearing about Palin's hair and what type of glasses she's wearing. WHO THE HELL CARES? Is that where America's priorities are as we're facing quite possibly the most important election of our time?? Is being "cute" and saying "gosh-darnit" all that's required to slide into the White House these days??

No, Biden and Palin aren't running for president, but as you said, history has taught us that we should be prepared. All I can say is God help us all if we don't make the right decision.

I just found this site and I'm so glad you are still out there in Detroit!
I think Palin is completely unqualified and I have decided not to vote for McCain because choosing here as VP shows his bad judgement. Furthermore, I am surprised that she would accept the job. She has a pregnant teenage daughter who is probbaly going though some tough times right now. If she is elected, it wll put Palin's family into the spotlight on a national level and that can be very difficult to handle. This shows her poor judement and I think we have enough bad judement in the white house over the last 8 years!

I was a D&D fan from the very start, I even listened to Rudy back when he used to latenight DJ on K-Rock! I can't wait to hear you guys back on the air in Detroit again.

Go ahead give Biden a pass on his interview.

He thinks in 1929 FDR went on television and told Americans exactly what happened when the stock market crashed. With all this supposed experience I thinks this makes him more stupid than Palin.Bwahahahahaha

In response to "anonymous" ripping on Jeff as an "unemployed radio guy" and comparing his opinion to that of Madonna, Alex Baldwin, Sean Penn, Matt Damon, George Clooney...

Jeff has made it clear he's unemployed by choice! Just read the previous entry. And his blog is just that: his opinion. But reading the other comments, it seems most people agree with Jeff (as I do).

Typical hard-core partisan. Don't debate Jeff's point, just rip on Jeff. And then don't even bother to fill in your name. Coward!

By the way, I'm no Obama supporter, but Palin is scary enough that I might have to vote for my first democrat.

Can't wait to get you back on the radio Jeff.
