I'M F&$#*!G SORRY!!!

This blog was never out to join the real 'blogosphere' or anything...really it was just meant as a small way to keep in touch with you our most loyal of listeners until we're back on. But I feel bad nonetheless that it's been weeks since I've written. My computer died a while back and it's been difficult isolating the problem, but I think (think) it's fixed. So I've been outta touch and I'm sorry. Today is John Smyntek's last day at the Free Press. He was the first guy and probably the last guy to write anything about us here, both good and bad, lol, but more importantly he's just a really cool guy and I want to wish him all the best. The paper won't be the same without him. I'm sure he'll fill his time looking for new bow ties and small movie roles. Good luck John!

Still haven't met Beaver's baby girl yet but will soon.

Rudy's still a Warcraft-playing-drunk.

I'm still looking forward to you all.

I'm sorry to hear that Rudy has yet to overcome his addiction to World of Warcraft, that game steals peoples souls... but I am looking forward to the day I will be able to listen to D&D on my drive home from Detroit each night (hopefully night).

I still occasionally checked in on you Jeff, glad to hear 50% of the team is still alive!
Maybe try a speech to text program - I would love to see longer postings on here.
I heard your very first words on THAT station, and I'm still looking forward to more. Keep us updated!

I would like to give my speculation. It's a fact that Drew wants to get back on the air. It's a fact that WRIF's morning show is dying a slow death. Why would D&D hang around if they didn't have something lined up? Obviously a talk show is what they would be looking for. 97.1 is out of the question. So, here goes . . . D&D on WRIF 6-10 am, Drew and Mike on WRIF, 2-6 pm. I think D&D proved that people enjoy listening to fun, intelligent (lol) radio on the way home as well as in the morning. So, I think this is what we can expect. I don't think Mike ever thought Drew would leave, and with his show tanking, had to decide to quit the industry, or move to afternoons with Drew.
Mark my words! There is no other talk show out there or a station that D&D would be suited for other than WRIF. See you in 2009 boys!

Something I've been wondering about...will Rudy ever do a commercial for Worlds of Warcraft? William Shatner and Mr. T have each done one. When will Rudy get around to doing it?
Just make sure he removes his vomit stained robe first.

A lot of people know John Smyntek from the Names and Faces column, but he was also a senior editor there for years and was responsible for some of the best work to ever come out of that paper. In addition to the celebrity stuff he also wrote many serious pieces over the years that were incredibly well done. I remember one piece he did about the first Christmas after his dad passed; the solemn nature of the gatherings, the empty chair at the dinner table… Anyone that has ever lost someone and then went through a holiday season could totally related to that. I still have that column. And of course… in July of 1998 he did a piece on Deathpool Dave that then got picked up by the Fox News Channel, and soon after about every other media outlet in the world I think. So the whole thing is totally his fault! He has been a great journalist in this town for decades, and a great guy as well. Good luck Sminty!

You better get both of you guys, including Rudy...the Beave is gone, so whatever, back on ASAP! Don't be an early morning show, please?? 3pm-7pm is perfect! And I hate sports, please don't be an all sports show? As dedicated to you as I am, I would have to ditch you if you went all sports. Too many over-aged, little boys who have created radio time slots to talk about sports and earn a decent paycheck really make me want to throw up. Terry Bradshaw(spelling) rings a bell. The man hasen't emotionally graduated from high school football. He can't keep a woman for more than three days.
I just hope that if you guys are sports orientated, then I will be sleeping.
I will miss you, but I will purposely miss your broadcast.

Hey anonymous, I added a countdown to my blog a few weeks back, it is at the bottom of my page. I don't know the exact date, or time. So I just set it for Jan 1st 09, hopefully Jeff can come out with some news soon, but we all understand why it can't be announced yet. www.supersizescott.blogspot.com is where you can find the countdown at the bottom of the page.....

D&D Here is a recommendation when you do return to radio. I highly encourace setting up your own website regardless of which company you sign up with. I know you have been opposed to this idea in the past but seeing how the radio industry is, I encourage this. I beleive your independent website would have not violated your non compete clause. You are a talk radio brand, let not a major network try to take you down like what happened last year. You have a uniquie talent which eclipses the fat men in the suits in the corner offices. I beleive it is time you take control of your talent. I am looking foward to the return of D&D. There has been a void since you guys left.

Please - when you come back to the airwaves, don't forget to dissect the local stories like you used to. I would have loved to have heard your quotes on K.K. and the Lions during your "off" period. And as for the slacker Rudy, - a gem to keep!

Supersize, you should change the date to the 5th, I doubt that they will come back on the Holiday or a Friday (2nd). Monday the 5th would be my guess. Maybe Jeff can give us a hint...

Best of luck Jeff.

Newspapers are cutting back on staff as internet based news continue to cut into their market and, just like the auto industry, they have been offering buyouts to some of their employees. After 37 years at the Free Press, John Smyntek decided to take a buyout. He hasn't said what he's doing next...

SUPERSIZE:

I'm going to go with 6:00am (maybe 5:30) January 2, 2009 as their return to the airwaves.

I'd hazard a guess at a station too, but I'd rather not put it out there for fear I'd jinx it.
