WHERE ARE WE
It must be that a lot of people find this blog recently, by chance, and don't go through the archives to the first few posts. So again for those listeners who keep asking, here's what's up. Bill and I are in a non-compete phase of our old contract with CBS. If we want to go back on the air in Detroit, we are legally compelled to be out of work for one year under terms of our old contract with CBS because they don't want to have to compete against us. We are free to be on air in other parts of the country, and I won't get into what we've entertained in that regard. But for everyone who continues to ask, no we are not on air anywhere right now, we're not working, and we have not moved away from Detroit. I would love to be able to tell you what the future holds for D&D as a show, but right now I just can't. I do want everyone to hear from us again, and for it to be better than ever. Hang in there.
Oh, what a scary 1st period that was for the Redwings yesterday! That's all I saw of the game because my son was going stir crazy and needed to get out of the house so I gave up the rest of the game to play with him outside. Nashville was pouring it on though and I'm watching those first several minutes of attack thinking no way could Osgood keep that up the whole game. Then he shuts them out. Shows what I know about sports...not much, lol. Go Wings!
Anyone see Sport Science last night? They had boxer Chris Byrd going through experiments to try to bust the myth that sex before a big game hurts your performance. They did pre-sex and post-sex studies of his leg strength, cardio, punching power and then blood work for testosterone levels. Byrd says he's never believed what a lot of athletes hold true; that abstaining before competition gives you an edge. According to the results, Byrd's right. If anything, his abilities increased four hours after sex. Thing is I don't know that I buy the results. Like I say I've never but that much of a sports guy, but whenever I've heard this I always assumed the theory was more psychologically based than physically based; that abstaining would put you in some more aggressive frame of mind, something that would be much harder to prove or disprove than testosterone levels. Still Sport Science is a fascinating show. Look for it on FSN on Sunday nights.

Sports Science is an awesome show. Even if you don't like sports it is cool. It breaks down sports myths and misconceptions scientifically. i.e is kicking a field goal with the laces facing you really any different? and to prove their point they use real athletes. In the case of the field goal one they used Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski.
I have caught about 5 episodes and they have all been enthralling.

Just want to say that i banned 97.1 from my radio as soon as they went all sports. What a lame move. As if detroit and the surrounding areas don't already have enough talk stations, let alone a freakin simulcast am/fm station. Crap decision on their part.
Anyways, glad to see you guys are around looking forward to hearing something when that no-compete clause is up! Good luck!

Here’s a thought on the one-year contract.
Hypothetically, would it violate the CBS agreement if you and Bill did a remote show from a Windsor station…from your homes? Technically, it’s very doable.
Just my humble opinion.

I agree with Smitty, does another country violate the "non-compete"? Or does an internet broadcast violate? If they do (which WOULD SUCK!) what is the countdown before you can be on air again?
BTW...97.1 was also removed from my number 1 spot on the radio favorites when it changed to sports! F*ck that! Havent checked it out since!

Hey guys,
Hope you stick around long enough to stay in Detroit.
Miss the show and look forward to you working for someone that understands a good thing when they have it.

Jeff,
I just want to say thank you for loving Detroit as if you were born and raised here...might be a dumb post but just wanted to say that!
We miss you guys!!!

we have also banned 97.1 from all of our radios-life just isn't the same without you guys on the air- please keep us posted on what you've been up to and what your plans are when and if you end up on the air be it here or somewhere else. If you find yourself getting mind numbingly bored-Jeff Deminski- you could always make a trip up to Oxford and get a waxing! Miss you all terribly and hope you are all using this time to R and R and spend some time with your families!
Keep us posted!!! Jessica

Hey guys, looks like there may be an opening for morning guys on WRIF soon...if you can take the hours ;-)

OK, so my radio listening world has been turned upside down in the last 6 months. Losing D&D in the afternoon, having them compete against Drew & Mike in the morning, losing Drew temporarily, D&D leaving the airwaves until who knows when, and then the word comes out that Drew is leaving the Drew & Mike show!! How much shake up can Detroit stand???
So I am going to throw this out there...Mike, Mike, Mark and Trudi have done an admirable job of filling in temporarily in Drew's absence, but I have trouble seeing them as a long term solution. So here is my proposal: What is the possibility of turning on the radio January 2nd 2009 and hearing the D&D morning show on the WRIF??? Perhaps Drew picks up some afternoon gig, either locally or in syndication and life returns to some kind of normalcy. Just a thought. :)

Your blog is as good as your show. A Podcast would be nice, but I am happy with what is here.
With the shake ups at a couple of nameless stations, I am sure there is something in the works. It takes months to come up with a show concept, I am sure it will be all done by the time you guys can get back on the air.
Love the show guys!

I miss you dudes! I almost wish I could go back to sitting in 5 o'clock traffic listening to you on my way home from work! Wherever you end up, I hope it happens soon, and I hope theres podcasting!

MISSING MY OLD SHOW!
My wife came to the U.S. from Budapest in 2003, she gained a portion of her social education from the D&D Show and became a regular listener. I had been a regular for years and it was fun to hear her talk about the show (from the perspective of someone adjusting to a new culture). The end of the show was particularly sad for us because it had been the springboard for many conversations (early in our relationship) in which she would ask questions about us strange Americans. After a while, she could recast the show better than I could and would probably have kicked my butt in D&D Trivia.
We both hope you guys can hold out through the non-compete and return to this market!

I had listened to you guys from day one and was disappointed to hear that you were no longer with the station.
Being a huge fan of sports, I think it's great that the station is broadcasting games, but this is the only reason for me to tune in 97.1 (Wings/Tigers). When, you guys were on in the mornings, I listened to you and the other shows for the entire day. When, you were shifted to the afternoon, I would only tune in for your show. Now, I will only listen to the games.....not interested in listening to the same topics being discussed by the various hosts, throughout the day/night (must be sharing the same script for each time slot).
It would be great to hear you guys on the air again. It would be ideal if, you were to come back to 97.1 and replace Jay, but retain Bill as the third amigo. It was refreshing to listen to a show that could make you laugh and forget the misery in our State for a few hours. Hopefully, we can listen to you in the Detroit market again and soon!

I am not the kind of person to comb the net for word of the whereabouts of radio personalities! I understand that the medium changes and honestly have not been too affected by it, until now. I miss you guys! I will continue to look for you and hope next year has exciting things planned for your show. Until then enjoy your R&R.
It's funny how I can read Deminski's posts and almost hear him talking!

Well . . . wherever you guys go - I hope to God that we can listen to you online. I for one will listen. I moved to Missouri about three years ago, and would listen to the show whenever I could - though admit wasn't as often as when I was up in Michigan.
I hope you guys are doing well especially with Michigan sucking in the economic game. Keep us all posted on what's going on! And just know, we're all behind you whatever you two decide to do. Sometimes you have to be selfish to better yourself (like I did by moving to Missouri) so whatever you guys do - do it for yourselves and no one else.
Long live D&D!

Shows you how much I've stayed in the loop.....
I moved from the Metro Detroit area back in November to wonderful senic Juneau, Alaska (long story...), and I was shocked upon checking up on some old favorite before I visit the "D" in a couple of weeks and find that 97.1 is a sports station, and that the 2 guys I listened to on a daily basis vanished into thin air? Whew! I'm glad you guys didn't leave.... gotta have SOMETHING to listen to when I periodically return to the motor city.....

Do you realize how much you are missed? I enjoyed listening to you for so many shows. Being blind, you are so vivid in your words, it makes for a perfect combination. Before D&D, I wasn't a fan of talk radio, that being said, after D&D, not a fan of talk bather again...It's funny, if you are such a big competition, why didn't CBS keep you on there? Makes no sense what so ever...Buncha dumbasses...I would wish that you will take over the morning show on WRIF as it doesn't seem like Drew is coming back and Mike sounds like an old lady that needs to be euthanized...is Dr. Kervorkian in town?
How's George doing? Down to bare skin yet? lol....How is Sparky? Hopefully both are doing well......So good to be able to at least hear your words on the computer....You are greatly missed...and hearing the story of Rudy, I knew the ending waaay before I ever got to it, but it was still f.a.f. Congrats to Rudy on MC's award....he's a trip...
