SOME UPDATES

Sorry I haven't posted anything here in a few days. It has been a busy time with the kids and yes a couple of business meetings. I continue to meet people around town who miss the show terribly, but I'm sure not as much as we miss you guys. Oh, speaking of which, hi to Sue at Cameron's Steakhouse in Birmingham. Some of the people I meet and some of the email I get say things that make me realize it is time to re-establish what happened with the show. No, we didn't get fired. That one makes me laugh because it is so the opposite of what went down. CBS actually wanted us for a longer time than we were willing to commit to after all the changes they brought down and, in my opinion, the bad direction the company was taking on a local level. Bill and I decided for the good of the show and our careers that it was time to move on even if it meant either leaving for a new city or waiting out this year long non-compete. That's the other thing that people have asked about...when are you getting back on the air? Where are you working now? We are in talks about several opportunities at present, but the short answer is right now there is no show, and there will not be a show in this calendar year of 2008 in the city of Detroit because we had a one year non-compete clause in our CBS contract that won't allow us to work here for one year after leaving the company. So it is a very difficult time, especially with family, wrestling with decisions such as taking on a new city and uprooting them or toughing it out and trying to stay.
People still asking about Beaver and Rudy, even though I've already posted updates about them I guess not everything gets read, so let me say again Beaver is doing fine but is out of the business now. He's working, but not in radio, which must kill him because you all know what a friendly people person he was, very in touch with his emotions and such. (cough cough NOT cough)
Nicole Salem is still doing traffic reports, but she never was employed directly by CBS so they didn't have the opportunity to fire her. She works for Metro, and does traffic still for the afternoon shifts not only on 97.1 but on other stations now as well. She's doing fine. Still can't spell cat, but is doing fine.
Then there's Rudy. You may have read about the awful way in which he was fired...but let's put that behind us for it was probably a blessing in disguise. His entertainment career is really taking off. No, not his band Mindcandy. I'm referring to his work as a pitchman for World of Warcraft. Perhaps you've seen other celebrities endorsing the game, such as Mr. T...

Or this one by Verne Troyer

Well look who's gotten big time work. Yes, no kidding, our own Rudy Desantis in his own World of Warcraft ad...check it out...

Congratulations Rudy, don't forget the little people. Well, not little like that, oh nevermind.

LoL...Rudy is such a nerd. I suppose if you can't be/or look like a bad mofo in real life, might as well play one in the cyber world. Of course I'm teasing....sorta.

Good to hear from you again Jeff (eyeroll to Bill). Another day without a posting and I most certainly would have developed an eye twitch.

Any thoughts of putting a show together via podcast that gets uploaded to itunes or something along those lines? Maybe a deal with XM or Sirius? I really don't know the implications of getting something like that done, but I don't think that you could be stopped from hitting the airwaves in the Detroit market via subscription services like XM.

Just a thought and since I moved to Chicago recently, I think it would be a great deal so I could hear you guys again.

You mentioned that you thought CBS radio was taking a bad direction on a local level. Does that mean you might end up working for a CBS station in another city like WKRK in Cleveland?

Ah... Rudy and his epic flying mount... well I guess epic mount could be taken one way... but I am still not sure how it's going to fly... that guy needs to stick to good old FPS games like CSS, TF2, CoD4, etc. By the way, I'm running a HUGE lan party at the end of March in Indianapolis. Roughly 200 people and all proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. Maybe Rudy and Bill should come on down for 48 hours of non-stop gaming :)

Well, I'm glad you finally made another post. I was getting a tad worried. The 3.5 hour from Lawrence Tech in Southfield to my home in Clarkston really made me miss your afternoon show...

Hope things are going well for you and bill.

I am so glad to have your thoughts on what happened and even whats going on in Detroit with Kwame. I can almost hear Doyle with his drops (God I loved those!)

I had emailed Bill Doyle after the change (I have a wee girl crush on Mr. Doyle) and told him I didnt like it. I'm not surprised you guys left and I am hoping you can stay in Detroit some way.

I know the radio biz is rough, but I was maybe in the minority that I even missed Scott & Casey when teh station fired them and I never forgave Michelle McCormack for the way they moved her in either.

My favorite story that Jeff told was the one where you slipped on the ice in front of those hot girls! The spastic dance!

And my fave Doyle story was him eating fast Mexican food and farting while he was announcing a sporting event and didnt know there was some poor guy sitting behind him the entire time!

And of course "I think I'll have puddin'"

Miss you guys, long time listener and I even called a few times too!

Penny

That was damn funny Rudy, I heard that Sirius is getting an Independent talk station on channel 110. Would be a perfect spot for you guys. Toby don't give them any ideas to move of state. :) I hope you guys can stick it out. I know it is rough, and I hope you know how much you guys are missed.

Sooo...if we all call 97.1 and DEMAND your return on your conditions...that would be okay??

Any thoughts to doing a show in Flint or Saginaw or does your noncompete include all of Michigan?

It makes me sick all this radio talent around here not currently working...Deminsky, Doyle, Drew Lane. Meanwhile, we're forced to listen to a bunch of garbage for the most part. Funny, 97.1 is supposed to be this great sports radio station now, but they can't hold WDFN's jock in my opinion. Their big afternoon show, Sports Inferno, is a joke compared to S&W. Those two blow hards on the SI come off as annoying know it alls. Any caller that doesn't agree with their opinions is summarily dismissed as "just not getting it". The only reason they get my ear occassionally is because DFN's signal usually goes out by 5:30. And 97.1's morning show...don't get me started with these guys. I thought WRIF sucked without Drew (and it does for the most part), but i'll take a Drew-less D&M show anyday over the ass clowns on 97.1 in that time slot.

Jeff, the selfish side of me wants you and Bill to tough it out for a year and then get back on the air here in the Detroit-area. The realistic side of me says you and Bill should do whatever is best for you and your families.....but if you do leave the area, make sure whereever you land, they have "Listen Live" capabilities on their website!

- Waiting for the return of the Double D's.

I was thinking the same thing J-dye...Now, without the two of you, I'm onto Podcasts on my desktop at work.

Jeff- Your first day starting in Detroit reminds me of the "Where were you when JFK got shot?"

Well..After I got out of work..I went to pick up my son at his first day of 7th Grade Football practice...and I was looking for something on the Radio...and there you were....Guess what Jeff? My son is graduating from Ferris State in May! It seems like yesterday...
oh- I never called in..but always wanted to tell you two things.
1- I remember when you said that you ALWAYS have to rinse your mouth out 3 TIMES after brushing your teeth! Remember?
And if for some God Forsaken reason you just rinsed twice...you went neurotic. Well, I am a member of the 3times rinse club LOL

Ok- 2nd thing
My son and I were on 75Northbound on my way to see my Dad in Cheboygan..and it was Auto Show Time...Can't remember the year. You had beaver or Rudy in the Men's bathroom...and he was on a cell...telling you if a man washed his hands or not after using the toilet.
If he DID was his hands, he was a DOVE
If he didn't wash his hands, I think he was a pigeon (cant remember)...
Anyway...Here I was, a 35yr old mom, with my 10yr son..laughing, hard belly laughs in rush hour traffic...Jeff...it was the funniest darn skit ever...and it made one of those "memory" moments for my son and I. You know...where you re-bring it up at least once a year, for a good stroll down memory lane?

Ok-I'll keep checking here.
Enjoy your time off! I always felt the two of you were quality enough to go syndicated...so good luck!!!
Geez...I almost forgot...a coworker started some idle chitchat a while back..found out she was a D&D fan...and she was SO terribly bummed out. She's got a long afterwork commute...we both sat there with our burnt coffee....moaning about missing you guys!

AirHugs,
Lyn from Troy

Hey Jeff, I echo the comments of J Dye, I am a big fan of podcasts since you and Bill left the air. Adam Carolla's show out of LA is a great one to listen to. I suppose there is not a lot of money in podcasting unless you have a paying gig to go along with it. I have confidence in you two to get a deal done somewhere. Just promise us a podcast if you end up in Hoboken.

I don't want them to leave Scott, but with the lack of activity on the blog and all the business meetings, I'm worried that they will. I was hoping that Jeff wasn't hinting at talking to out of market CBS stations. I like the Sirius idea and the idea that Art Vuolo mentioned about them doing an out of state show from a local studio. Even with Art Vuolo's idea, I find it hard to believe an out of state station will give them a 10 or 11 month deal, and then let them jump back to Detroit radio. I'm afraid that if they land out of state, they will be off the Detroit airwaves a lot longer than just 2008.

I know it's selfish on my part, but I hope you guys can stick it out for the rest of 08. As popular as you are, I have to think there are other local stations in Detroit that would be ready to put you on the air Jan 01.

Jeff and Bill, my drive home in the afternoon sucks. I work in downtown Detroit and live in Flint so I would always get a straight hour or two of you without interruption. i am a sports guy, but not to the extent where i want to listen for that long. I miss the show and hope you guys can stick it out long enough to get back on the air. I wish you and your families the best! Rudy from Flint

Hey guys!

With you guys off the air it is like having good friends move away. It sucks!

Do what's best for you, but don't blame us for hoping you come back here somehow.

BTW - anyone notice the pathetic slide of ratings at WXYT (97.1)? http://www.stationratings.com/ratings.asp?market=11

Sports 24x7. Paint drying 24x7. Booooring.

Hurry back Jeff and Bill!
