WELCOME

WHY AM I DOING THIS?
No, not because I'm out of work and bored. Actually with a two and a half and a one year old at home I'm not bored at all. The best fans any show could ever ask for had formed a D&D fan group under Yahoo groups years ago and I've always tried to steer clear of these sorts of things but had finally joined that group to keep people updated about two months ago when the writing was on the wall. Since we could not come to an agreement with CBS many listeners from that group have asked that I open up some sort of site simply to post updates, so here it is. This is NOT going to be flashy. This will be one of the most boring sites ever made. It is just a way to keep in touch and you guys of course can post comments here too. No advertising will be done. I'm not trying to make any money off this whatsoever.

The first update I want to give is about the situation of Rudy's firing. I won't rehash the whole thing here, but regarding my post under the Yahoo group about the callous way Rudy Desantis was let go...
I was contacted by both Bill McAllister and Jay Towers concerning that post. They are both very angry that I posted it. Bill says he never received an email from Rudy (at the time I thought he had) but did acknowledge getting the voicemail in which Rudy wanted to know if there was a place for him. Jay acknowledges he is the one who got the email from Rudy asking the same, and Rudy tells me he also left two voice mails for Jay as well, all asking about keeping a job. Both said more or less they didn't think it was a big deal that they never gave Rudy any type of response, and of course you know how I feel. In fairness I wanted to note the corrections.

But here's the thing. I also was told some of our old listeners are pranking their new show. Please, PLEASE don't do this. No show deserves that. And I also don't want any of our old listeners to feel they must boycott the show or boycott the station. If you like the show, listen to it. If you don't, do what you want. Same for the station itself. I do not hate those guys. In fact much the opposite, which is why I felt so deeply hurt for Rudy. In fact I had given congratulatory messages to both of them as soon as I'd heard they had gotten the show. I'm not going to have anything more to say about CBS or about the new morning show, and what I said before in the press, I meant, that I wish the company and the station well, and I still mean that for Jay and Bill too. I honestly mean that. At the same time I was heartbroken at how Rudy was let go, because he worked for me, he was one of my guys, and I don't care nearly as much about what someone does to me as I do about what someone does to one of my guys. So please, don't try to stand in the way of any one's show. Bill Doyle and I will be just fine, whether we work in this business again or not, we'll be fine.

As for Beaver, many of you asked if he is still working there. No, he is not. I don't know if anyone ever bothered talking to him. I know his contract ran out and he is no longer working there. That's all I know. My gut tells me he has had it with broadcasting and probably won't do it again. We got together for drinks one night after it was all over, and I told the guys how much they meant to me. I actually got Beaver to allow me to hug him. Those of you who know the show know how amusing that is. Beaver who never wanted to have emotions let alone talk about them, letting a co-worker hug him goodbye, lol.

So yes, we're gone from CBS, and I wish the new show well, the new station well, and the company well. We still cannot work on air in Detroit for the calendar year of 2008. The only update I can tell you right now is Bill and I are looking into some things out of state. Should that happen it would still be nice to come back here when we can. We'll see. Nothing much new to report I know, but the new year is only days old.

I hope you all had great holidays and mild new year hangovers. I will absolutely keep in touch here so let people know of this site. Thanks for so much support. Just like the 8 and a half years we spent together, it means the world to me.

If you end up out of state I will be sure to stream. We can't expect you to wait around a whole year without income or without a guarantee of a new job in Detroit in 2009. Just don't go to a warm weather state with a good economy or your wives will never let you return to Michigan, lol.

Just wanted to say that I loved the show!!!! You guys will always be a part of my high school and college memories. Made me laugh during some pressure-filled times and times where I had few friends(esp. high school). I started listening in 2000 and will never forget "What's Normal", "What's in the Bathroom", and all the dumb things you made Beaver do.

I mourned with you guys when 9/11 hit and when you told us Captain Rick had died. I know Jeff had a difficult time when his dad died, and I prayed for you during those days.

I was going to send you guys a shinebox for Christmas as a joke, but you all had been booted by early December.

I regret never calling the show, but I sincerely hope you both will be back on the air soon, somewhere. God bless. :)

This sucks for Detroit, the past week I had to drive in with reruns of Mojo in the Morning, AM 950 and more so channel surfing because there is nothing left. Let's just say MPR is on more then not again just like before your team was on in the morning. 2 weeks go by and Detroit feels the hurt. You guys should do a few pod casts for your fans and post um up. I am sure you have the simple equipment that can handle it and you know a lot of people would stream them or download them to listen to. Take to the web with free air waves!

I'm so glad to have a place to stay updated on you guys. As weird as it sounds, you've played such a big role in my life as many other commenters have also said.

I used to have to take my terminally ill dad from Flint to Ann Arbor a few times a month and you guys would make us laugh on the way home every time. Your show came to Detroit about the same time I met my wife. The D&D show was the only thing I had to look forward to in the afternoons while delivering flowers all day.

Every time I hear Michigan or Detroit mentioned in a movie, I think, "Hey, that would be great for the D&D opener." Thanks to you guys and Beaver, I carry my wallet in my front pocket and brush my teeth in the shower now.

I only hope you find a company that treats you the way you treat your listeners. You are both truly a class act. I'm just glad I still have the podcasts saved on my hard drive. Good luck!

I can see that we all have a little hole in our hearts since you guys have left the air. It seems that the revolving door of Detroit radio has let another show to the waste side. This is a true shame. I understand that stations go through changes but my god, this is ridiculous.

I don't get how a station like this can let their top money makers go without a solid reason why. I am mad for you guys. As for the non-compete, you should fight it. What a stab in the back. Detroit radio is dead and will continue to be as long as they let great talent leave.

Good luck in the future, and it's not going to be in Detroit I have to get over that fact.

BTW I was the guy who send you the could have stared in link. Lots of fun that is!

Detroit Radio is Officaily DEAD.

It is incredibly sad to hear that you're no longer on the air here in Detroit. I doubt that my afternoon/morning commutes will ever be as enjoyable again. Being in sales and on the road for many hours during the day, there were many days that I was able to listen to your show all the way from 3:00 to 7:00.

Back in 2003, when my Marine Corps reserve unit was called up for the Iraq invasion, my wife would record some of your shows and send them to us. Surprisingly, many of the guys in my unit were listeners as well, so I would pass the tapes around. This actually became the only source of entertainment for many of us, and your upbeat personalities made the conditions seem not as bad. Rudy also sent a recording to my wife when she called in during a segment where you guys asked for family members of those deployed to call in.

I always enjoyed WKRK’s personalities including Kramer and Twitch, Motor City Mid-days, Stern, O&A, and even Rover. None of these shows could compare, however, to the high quality program you consistently put out day after day.

Best of luck to you guys wherever you end up, and I hope to be able to hear you again on the air here in Detroit next year.

I am truly saddened by the recent turn of events regarding the only talk radio in Detroit (as far as I'm concerned). Being a women I do not want to listen to sports radio all day! I want my D&D back! You always had a variety of topics, games, polls, weird news, real news, entertainment news, etc... that appealed to mutiple demographics. Evidently the geniuses at CBS don't care too much about their female audience? Well I have one word for CSB executives GOOD-BYE! CBS will never admit when they are wrong or have made mistakes, idiots! In the meantime I hope they have lost thousands of listeners just because of the way they handled this entire transition, unprofessionally, childishly and and oh ah "if we ignore it it will go away" attitude.

I wish you (Jeff and Bill) a future with great success as you had hear in Detroit. I only hope to hear you soon (1 year) on another station in Detroit but if you have to go out of state I understand and I'm jealous that those listeners are so fortunate!!!

Jeff, Bill, Rudy and the Beav. Thanks for great radio guys! Good things come to good people and I'm sure that you guys will be working soon. It will be our loss. I still remember listening to your first show. A local columnist didnt have much hope for your show. You guys entertained us for 8 1/2 years and it should have been longer. Thanks for the years spent here in Detroit, I remember I started listening to you guys back in 2001....so I was in the 7th grade lol. I remember not always quite getting the off-beat humor to the show but I just knew that hey, it was funny, even if I didn't understand it. Growing up listening to you guys, understanding all the humor and jokes, it really was great times, I always knew that no matter how sh!tty my day was going I would always be able to listen too you guys from 3-7pm and for those 4 hours I'd be laughing almost non-stop. Even now in college when I didn't always have the chance to hear you guys on the radio I would always try to make sure that I got my computer on the stream, and even when you moved to mornings that was almost a good thing because I was always up by 6am, and I would hear you guys damn near to 9:30 or 10am when you'd go off the air. Now I don't have that too look forward to anymore and it is indeed like I lost a friend. I just hope my iPod doesn't crash soon, there are too many awesome podcasts spanning the last year and a half I have on there!

All in all, if we never hear your show again, thanks for the amazing years you've given us as fans. And when you come back on in Detroit in '09 (unless you leave the state, which no one can really blame you guys for) you can bet that no matter what time in the day it is, we as fans will be there listening to the show's triumphant return! Whether it be as a morning show or an evening drive show or even a late night/midnight/3rd shift show. And if you guys can get the station to allow the fans in, I'll be there camping for you guys to come in just to celebrate the return of D&D.

Good luck in the year Jeff, Bill, Rudy and Beaver. Hopefully we will hear you soon on the radio again here in Detroit, even if soon is basically a whole damned year away.

I understand that you don't want us to call the station or anything, but I don't feel voicing ourselves (within reason) is wrong! You guys became apart of our lives and from the comments left behind, you can see how much the show meant to so many. I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you. We should let the station know how we feel (again within reason). We are the listeners. And guess what? Many of us don't want to even bother giving any shows a chance and the station needs to know that! They also need to know that what happened to Rudy WAS UNACCEPTABLE! I'm sorry, but our voice is all we really have left in life and we need to us it before that's taken away also. I'm sorry everbody, but I'm just so pissed at the whole situation!

Hey Jeff (and Gregg)...

I never detected anything but a friendly rivalry between you guys past & present.

Somebody might have called D & D "Dumb and Dumber" at one time, but I don't think it was spiteful....and it might have been on one of those dopey posting boards that people connected with the shows dont have much or anything to do with.

The wide range of topics you have all covered and approaches are so different (and fun) and that's what "human" radio is about. Gregg has called himself (basically) a fat bald guy, and Rudy and Nicole (Salem) has been relentlessly at the butt end of D & D jokes (maybe rightfully so, LOL!), but we still like everyone.

(Hey whatever happened to the bet between Henson & Doyle?)

Doyle seemed always to be the techno-whiz on the show, but it's Jeff who put the board up. Way to go, Jeff!

CBS made a juge mistake changing the format. I hope there is a way you can get back on the air in Detroit. Theres a lot to be said for a show that appeals to not only young guys but also to 40-something women like me. Miss you!!!!

Just found this blog -- I'm glad to hear what's up with you guys (not glad to hear about Rudy's situation, that sucks).

I hope you guys return the the air here someday, but I sure wouldn't blame you a bit if you got the hell out. I don't blame anyone for that.

Now, to search and see if you posted any Lost stuff. I sure miss Doyle's recaps.
