NEW HAMPSHIRE
So here's Clinton fighting for her life. Almost crying on tv the other night. God I want so badly for her to lose, if only because she seems so stunned by Iowa. That sense of entitlement to be wiped off her face was great. But did anyone notice something? All media outlets made this HUGE deal out of her "welling up" when a reporter asked her about the rigors of campaigning with the question "How do you do it?". She of course went on to talk about how personal it was, how she's trying to save the country after all it has given her, blah blah blah. But wasn't it insulting to women that a reporter would even ask this? It just doesn't seem like something a male would have been asked or at least not in the same way. Why not ask her who she sends out for her Tampax when she's on the road. Well okay, she's too old for that, but you get my drift. The question itself just seems to be assuming a weaker sex in my opinion. And just how many times did they have to replay that video of her "welling"?! The number of playbacks rivaled the Rodney King beating. Also I saw a speech the other night and the signage in the background had something which bothered me. It didn't read CLINTON...it read HILLARY. Would a man running for office go by just RON or MITT or JOHN on a sign? Very Cher of you, but if you want to be taken seriously let's not be so cutsie. Or are you just trying to distance yourself from the old connotations of stained blue dresses and such? I don't know. All I know is be very careful if you plan on taking part in the Michigan primary which was moved up of course, and as a result the rules are completely crazy. Writing in Obama or Edwards will not count as a vote against "Hillary", only writing "uncommitted" will count. Check http://www.wwj.com/pages/1441507.php for more info. It is a mess.

Hillary will never get elected President of the United States. Her bid failed before it even got started. All else being equal, the leadership in the Middle East will never accept a female president as an equal of a male. America may finally be ready for a woman President but the rest of the world isn't. If we want to be a major player in what happens in that part of the world, it can't be with Hillary in the White House (not yet). Those people consider women to be property (in a sense). I know it isn't fair, but it is reality.

Hey Jeff,
I agree 110% with you and the Hillary "welling up" thing. I think every single thing she does and says is so contrived. I didn't want her to become president anyways, but after seeing her welling up from the rigors of the campaign trail, which is in its
SECOND WEEK, made me laugh! What the hell is she going to do when something really disastrous happens in this country. Is she going to cry? If she's already SPENT, she needs to drop out of the race. She is so fake, robotic, etc. The country may be ready for a female president, but NOT HER! The Clinton's and Bush's need to pack their crap and move out of Washington. We need some new blood with new ideas.
I personally don't think Bill wants her to win. He'll be back in the White House, after being President, and what, have tea with other MALE dignitaries wives, pick out china patterns and curtains? Probably a little hard to go back to the white house as the president's SPOUSE!
Aarrggh, the whole thing is such a joke anways.
Miss you guys. Keep us updated.

Jeff, first of all I listned to you guys from the start, and for the last five years listned to the entire show. As a Fedex guy I never had a chance to call in but you guys kept me company, thank you for all the years of entertainmet. Secondly, what scares me is if Hillary wins the whole thing will she well up when the rest of the world thinks this country is a joke and Bill is back to banging every intern in sight. If people in this country think she is the change we need then we've turned into a buch of pussified hippie liberals that will castrate ourselves the first chance we get, like Bill tried to do eight years ago. This last eight years were just the start of darker years ahead with the way this election is going. I just know if she wins this whole country will turn into Michigan, poor and broken with no hope of greatness. Remember Hillary is Granholm's hero, and she models herself after Clinton. I just can't wait to be triple taxed. Sorry about the long post.

Hillary was crying the blues because if she loses, she has to go home to N.Y. with Bill. If she wins, we will all be crying when national health care becomes her main priority.

Just found this blog via Henson's. I have been a listener of 97.1 since the Dahl days. I remember the day he freaked and they aired a Mancow re-run instead. I listened to Don & Mike who replaced him. With you guys gone there's no longer any reason to listen to 97.1 as I don't give a crap about sports. Thanks for keeping us up to date. (I still have the calendar.)

mark in hazel park: Benazir Bhutto who was a woman and who was recently assassinated in Pakistan was Prime Minister of that country TWICE. With all due respect, your post made absolutely no sense.
Right now, the score is "2" for Pakistan and "0" for the US when it comes to acknowledging women as leaders of countries.

I like what Chris Rock said. That the country is ready for a woman to be president just not that woman. Just because your husband had a job doesn't mean that your qualified to do it. He said he has been married for 10 years but if his wife was on stage you wouldn't be laughing. Would you get on an airplane that the pilot's wife was going to fly??

Jeff, waxing poetic about the election cycle. :) How come you guys had a rule on the show to never (or rarely) discuss politics? You seem to have some pretty good insight. As for Clinton, she may have won last night, but I don't think she'll end up the nominee, never mind the White House. She's too polarizing and too scripted. But Jon Stewart played "The Clip" last night on the Daily Show and I agree that the mainstream media reaction was way overboard. Honestly, is it really surprising to see a women get a little bit emotional?

She has learned BJ Clinton's skills well.

I love how this great state of Michigan gets this great idea to move the primary up and try and compete with Iowa and New Hampshire. And it all blows up in thier face. What kind of rinky dink operation is going on in the state capital? Between adding wider shoulders to I-75 and all the wonderful other ideas that Gov. Jen Jen has put in place Michigan is a shadow of it's former self. Granted Michigan has never been a "go to" state. But we have had our times here. Seems like a few years ago we weren't doing so bad. But back on the Hillary topic.....this may be simplistic but among MANY, MANY other reasons for NOT voting for her I think the easiest reason would be not having to listen to her SCREAM HER SPEECHES. In her shrill voice of her. For whatever reason she thinks if she screams what she says it puts more emphasis on it instead of letting the words and phrases speak for themself. Oh well I hope everyone will go out there and vote this year.

Indira Ghandi, Prime Minister, India
Golda Meir, Prime Minister, Israel
Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister, Great Britain
Kim Campbell, Prime Minister, Canada.
I shutter to think of this particular individual as our leader, but the validity of a female as an effective leader was proven long ago.

OMG I cant bielieve she won NH. and with that said she will win MI. This is really bad news.

Old trick of the female if you don't get what you want or something does not go your way.... cry. It was so fake it was embarrassing are we really to believe that bull dike has feelings......Not... lol this is a joke...Did anyone hear the guy chanting iron my shirt??? over and over??? Hilarious!!
Hurry back guys!!@ Please

It was all set up to get female voters to come out and vote for her.

Hey Phil,
If they were as forward-thinking as you say, Benazir Bhutto wouldn't have been assassinated. It sounds like she's the exception that proves the rule. The NEXT time you see a woman in a leadership position in Iraq, will be the FIRST time you see a woman in a leadership position in Iraq. Yes, I know they're both Muslim nations. But some countries are more fanatical than others. With relations as unstable as they already are, do you think it's a good idea to give them another reason to hate the United States?

TO MARK: Wait, let me get this straight, you don't think we should elect ANY woman president because it will piss off the Arab countries!?
Wow.

anonymous,
Personally I don't think gender or race is an issue. I voted for Granholm and I'm leaning toward voting for Obama. But yes, I do think there are things which go through people's minds when they step into the voter's booth. Things they wouldn't necessarily feel comfortable verbalizing yet as we can see, time-after-time what they're thinking just by the outcomes of these elections. People have been willing to vote minorities to positions of power in this country, TO SOME EXTENT. Governors, senators, mayors, etc. But we've yet to see a minority voted to the office of President. I don't think it's a coincidence that the "best person for the job" is always a Caucasian male. You know and I know that's not ALWAYS the case. The foreign relations comment I made (about Iraq reacting negatively to Hillary) was just one of MANY excuses people will use to rationalize NOT voting for a female for president (in their minds). I've also heard guys play the "too emotional" card. Maybe people just aren't ready for that kind of change.

Regarding "..wasn't it insulting to women that a reporter would even ask this?"
Actually, the person who asked the question that made Clinton cry was just a NH voter, Marianne Pernold Young, NOT a reporter.

The irony is that she ended up voting for Obama anyway.
