So as all intelligent people already could tell, he lied. He clearly lied under oath. And that's the point of this story. Things go wrong in relationships all the time and many people stray and do things they wish they hadn't. BUT this isn't about that. This isn't society being holier than thou and throwing stones from glass houses. This is about a mayor who knew he was lying and allowed a cash strapped city to spend millions of dollars defending his actions in court. I hope this doesn't get bogged down in the salacious nature of what's come out, because the real crime here is perjury, committed by a sitting mayor of city that deserves better. Kwame, you are a punk ass bitch. This is why I wouldn't shake your hand at the Maxim party at Super Bowl. I hope there's a dead stripper laughing at you from heaven.

He'll get re-elected. He'll show up at a church with his family all dressed up, and a prominent Mickey Mouse, empty shelled man of the cloth (Jesse, Al, Horace) will hold sermon declaring him a changed man.
And in the very Christian way the crowd, as well as many of Detroit's well intentioned but stupid citizens, will say "hey he's not so bad, let's do the Christian thing and turn the cheek"
The arrogance of this administration certainly rivals that of the Bush administration, and the awesome legacy of arrogance the Kennedy family has maintained over the decades. It's a disgusting display of power, and how it can go horribly wrong in ill equipped hands. It cost this city $9 million, which could have been better spent...yknow...picking up the damn garbage.
He'll get re-elected because it'll be the right thing to do come election time. No one else can save the city.
And for the record, I lived in the city for several years..and I voted for Freman. So don't start on some sort of suburb/city, white/black trip. Ain't gonna happen.

Here's the thing! He will fight it Tooth and Nail not to step down. Kwame give up the thug/Rockstar lifestyle? HELL NO!
The City of Detroit is going to waste MILLIONS trying to get this guy out of office. After all the court Filings/Costs/Time, what are we looking at a year of trials? Would it not be easier just to do a vote of "no confidence". have a laugh at his sorry ass, maybe dig up some more junk and say BYE!

Jeff, I immediately thought of your love of King Kwame when this story broke. I really wish you guys were still on the air so I could actually hear your thoughts on this, but I am glad that I get to read them, just the same. Detroit re-elected this asshat, and they got what they paid for, the Mayor Pimp. Hopefully it's just a matter of time before Kym Worthy files charges against him and Beatty.

I have been checking this site since yesterday evening when the news of the "scandalous texts" hit the news. I couldn't wait to see what you had to say. It would only be better if i could hear the words...
Perhaps the mayor should have consulted Beaver for a "what would Beaver do" segment, before he lied openly in court. I doubt that it would have ended with Beaver saying "your better than that". he certainly is not.
I miss the show terribly, but the blog is a nice fix until we can hear you again!

i couldn't agree more. the man (uhh i am using that term loosely here) needs to step down from office. NOW. i would love to find a LEGITIMATE petition out there for his recall. But of course, you have to remember, Detroit STILL has Colman Young followers and those followers voted for KK. Until their ignorance disipates, they will keep him in the seat. it's pathetic.

He's not going to jail and he will be mayor for another 4 year term.
The prosecutor dealing with this perjury either:
1) won't have the guts to prosecute
2) will do the job so badly that you'd wonder how they passed the bar exam
3) will take it to court in Detroit where Kwame will be acquitted on principle
Then the campaign for re-election will kick in and he'll call in all the favors he's done for detroit's big shots. Backed by the numerous church groups that support him he'll be back in office quicker than you can say "corruption".
Sad, but almost certainly highly likely.....

Hi Jeff, I MISS YOU GUYS! OMG, I forgot for a minute and tuned into 97.1 to hear all your Kwame comments and was so sad when I didn't hear your voices. Sniff.
Anyway...as an actual INSIDE, taxpaying resident of Detroit, nobody can tell me I have no say about this, even though I am white! It was MY tax money that was wasted in the court over IDIOT Mayor.
I had to post because you summed it up perfectly: A dead stripper is looking down..." Yep, so many people seem to forget how this all really STARTED: Tamara Greene's murder.
Much like your Maxim party meeting, I also am a bit "in the know" about things in Detroit and (without dropping any names) it is pretty much accepted by all the local politicians and news personalities that Kwame had a hand in her death. Just no proof. Not YET anyway. Time will tell.

I read that the city council can't act against Kwame until there is an official grievance filed or complaint called in by a citizen of the city of Detroit (per the city charter.) Now, how long before someone complains? Will anyone complain? And what's Kwame's relationship with Kym Worthy nowadays? Will she aggressively persue this matter or merely sweep it under the rug for him?

The citizens of the City of Detroit have no one but themselves to blame for this. He was caught in the Navigator story, and weaseled his way out of that. Now that he has PERJURED himself, UNDER OATH, he will probably get away with this as well. I don't care that he is a cheating, piece of shit, but he had the balls to sit up there and LIE, under oath. Obviously Christine Beatty had no problem lying in a court of law either. He needs to be forced to resign, and be dis-barred, at the very least.
The next time I hear people who live in the city complain that they don't get the police, fire, and emergency services they pay for, just remember, all that money is now going to pay for the $9 million lawsuit because if Kwame.
He is a thug, who just happens to me Mayor of a big city. He's no better than any other gang-banger in the city.
