CAR TECHNOLOGY
Take a look at this story. http://info.detnews.com/redesign/blogs/autoshowblog/index.cfm?blogID=263
Then tell me, is all this a good idea? I know on the surface it is, but I can't get past feeling that all this tech they are putting into our cars will only dumb down drivers even more. This has been proven with back up alarms and cameras; people over rely on them and pay less attention. Plus do we really want another nag alarm in our cars yelling at us like a backseat mother-in-law that we took our eyes off the road for a second? May try to get down to the auto show this year now that I have some free time. The funniest year broadcasting from the auto show was when we were handing out those D&D calendars to listeners and they made us stop because they decided we were handing out pornography. Anyone who saw those things could tell you there's been worse on billboards, lol.

I remember when you handed out those calenders and I was bummed when I got to the show and you guys had left already

I remember that. You also had Beaver go and ask about the Olds that they were not gonna be making anymore and if you could get a model in the back seat because she was the same size as his girl friend. Or was the Rudy. But that was so freaking funny. Ah the good times.

Technology can hurt or harm the future in the points you brought up Jeff. However, I can say this, it saved my butt from hitting the wall this morning in the snow on I-75. I started to lose it and my electronic stability program kicked in and steered me out of it. I saw a guy behind me do a one and half spin across 2 lanes. He didn't hit anyone nor did anyone hit him...lucky guy....in my case though, I was hitting the wall if it wasn't for the new technology. I'm one happy camper this afternoon :)

I remember Beaver walked around asking dumb questions LOL, they wouldnt even talk to you about your seleen. That was a classic week. anyways I hate the seat belt sound on the fords even if you release it just at a drive thru the sensor tells you its off.I have a dvd player in my truck but I admitt I never use it.

hi, i got to actually use that eye thing last year at the auto show. its stupid because you have to look out the the front windshield teh whole time. i know when i drive sometimes i might glance ou the side window to merge lane. when you do that with that eye thing you get a loud ring and a blast of cold air on the back of your neck. now if every time i take my eye off the front for a second i get a loud ring and a blast of air, that might actually cause me to get into an accident. it's stupid,

Sorry Jeff, I know this is off topic but I couldn't resist. Too bad you guys aren't still on the air because Doyle would have the perfect drop to play for when Jay the Cable Guy called into the show. It's that new Scooby Doo commercial for Dish Network. In it, they have the bad guy all tied up and when Shaggy reveals who the "villain" is, he says, "Zoinks! It's the Cable Guy!" Couldn't help but think of Doyle. :)

Anyone remember Beaver (aka Milk Milky Toast) going to the Lamborghini display and asking if he could fit 2 car seats in the back and if it came with a tow package?

Man I hate those! When I go to just back my car out of the garage the seatbelt alarm starts going off like I just ran over a kid or something.

I wonder what this technology would do with a person who has a lazy eye or wall eye?

We don't need any more bells and whistles in our vehicles. I get distracted enough when any cell phone rings around me, even when it's clearly not my ring tone. Haha! Peace!

I with you on this one ! I can't stand all those fancy computers trying to run my life while I drive. Of the vehicles we own, my fav is this silly old Suzuki Samurai.

Even the interior light must be manually turned on !
I work on cars for a living. It's so frustrating when I get locked into a vehicle, or the headlights are shining and I can't turn them off.
More and more I appreciate the simplicity of the old....
