...AND HOW ABOUT
Channel 4's lead-up coverage...they actually had a countdown to Kwame clock going, lol. Could this whole thing have been a bigger circus? Like it was New Year's Eve and the ball was about to drop and Hootie and the friggin' Blowfish would come out to play. There was so much wrong with this speech tonight it is almost too tiring to begin. I was reading some of your comments from the last two hours since Kwame spoke. One of you brought up all his references to God and faith. Where was that reverence when you placed your hand on a bible in a court of law and swore you'd be telling the truth Kwame? What about where he says "the four people he loves most in the world", his three kids and his wife. How does that fit with the texts to his former chief of staff that he was 'madly in love' with her? Why did he need to tell us how for the first time in his life he had to sit his twelve year old down and have a very adult conversation about all this? That was designed to make us feel sorry for him again. To play the victim again. Just like the constant mentions of how if any of us has an affair it isn't front page news, and how this is a private matter. To play the victim. I hope people are smarter than this. How many times do we all have to scream this to the city of Detroit...
IT IS NOT ABOUT THE AFFAIR
...it is about all the abuses of his power and corruption of our justice in covering up that affair. Everything innocent cops had worked for in their careers, careers in which they put their lives on the line, was destroyed. On purpose. By the mayor. Who cared more about himself than innocent servants of Detroit. And this guy spoke tonight of how hard he works for Detroit? What about that part where he said this past weekend was the first weekend since 2002 that he cleared his whole schedule to do nothing but spend time with his family? We're supposed to feel how hard working he was from this statement? Couldn't we just as easily thought about all the nights he spent fucking Christine Beatty that he could have been at home with his family? And how about when he practically demands the media leave his wife alone. So she can get the perks of being Mrs. Mayor when it comes to things like the Navigator, but God forbid a reporter dare ask her when she knew about the affair and did she know prior to her husband lying under oath. I'd like to stay in the Detroit area, but if this guy should be re-elected after this I will seriously question my decision, for what kind of future could an area have when the self-respect isn't there.

Pathetic indeed. And yep, you certainly called it, Jeff. He begged us to please leave his poor family alone during this "private" time, and invoked God as a smoke screen for his crimes. It was very gross. Sadly, he's not a bad actor and alot of his uninformed voters will buy the crap he dished out and find him sympathetic. It's very frustrating. However, one thing I hate to see is informed folks throwing up their hands saying that Detroiters deserve him because they voted for him and are supporting him now. Detroiters are being made the fool by someone who is squandering their money, ruining careers, lying about it, and then running into a church to cry and win them over. No matter what, I hope people don't think Detroiters deserve that. I for one love the city and think it's worth the tiring arguments to get people to see what's really going on. Jeff, we need you leading the screams!
January 30, 2008 9:58 PM
Jeff, I know you didn't expect anything sincere. This is exactly what we were all expecting from him. A story about how he is so sorry, he'll never do it again, blah blah blah. It's the same shit we've heard countless times from other politics when they're caught pulling crap.
He's so sincere about staying here to be the mayor of detroit, like it's what people want. Disgusting
January 30, 2008 10:13 PM
Ok, What is the demographic of the city of Detroit ( the voters )? Lower income blacks. Lower income, meaning low to practically non-educated blacks. They vote base on race. Period. They'll lie and say otherwise. I'm not in denial about that. Case in point: Marion Barry of D.C. Convicted crack head. And they re-elected him. Low and behold the main demographic of D.C. is...anybody, anybody?? Lower income/educated blacks. They'll vote for anybody that matches their skin color even if that person has robbed and rapped someone. They don't care.
Deminsky, if you are this niave about how these things work, God help you.
January 30, 2008 11:02 PM
Please don't judge the entire Detroit area by the citizens of the city of Detroit. The citizens of Detroit choose to continue to be ignorant and support the man. Most people outside of the city are not that ignorant and would not re-elect an official with his record. We need you on the air here in 2009. You have only been off the air for a month and a half and it sucks trying to find something to listen to on the radio.
January 30, 2008 11:32 PM
I probably don't have any right to post my opinions about this as I'm not a Detroiter, but I am a Michigander and I love this state. His actions cast a poor light on an already hurting state. He doesn't even have enough self respect to step down. For people to stand behind him purely on race alone is ignorant. Jeff, it's times like these that I really miss you on the radio. I could always count on you guys for intelligent, honest conversation when the important issues came up. Please don't leave Michigan! You're a bright spot in a very dark place. I believe Michigan and Detroit have great potential, but without good people to speak up and lead the charge for change, we might be doomed. Your voice can surely help.
Here's to waiting for the day you say "D&D are back on the radio in Detroit!"
Cheers
Anne

I loved how as Kwame was to walking in to bare his soul and make his confession, he shoved Steve Wilson while he was walking into the church! Why the shove? Steve asked him "Who is Carmen Slowski?" Well, guess what? I want to know who I'm paying for the K-man to have spa sessions with too. Oh, Kwame, you lying little bastard. Just give it up.
Channels 2 and 7 aired the shove, but Channel 2 had a better angle and it shows the deliberate shove doled out specifically to Steve Wilson.
January 30, 2008 11:56 PM
Jeff, you are on the mark here 100%--your common sense makes me miss hearing you and Bill on the radio all that much more. I was personally sickened watching tonight's episode of "7 Mile Kabuki Theater"--I was nauseous when I wasn't laughing at how blatant the act was. The setting, the constant invocations of religion, the subtle damnation of the media for the pursuit of the story and his heartfelt "I would never quit on you...ever" Just over a week ago this same contrite, repentent soul was in North Carolina getting a rub-down with some mystery woman--not Christine, not Carlita...who knows who. Kwame is sorry alright, sorry he got caught. As an aside, WDIV's coverage at 11pm was practically a mayoral love-in with Hank Winchester talking about Kwame and Carlita's tender moments together before and after the telecast...I guess tomorrow it's back to work for Kwame, and back to watching news that's broadcast from Southfield for me.
January 31, 2008 12:18 AM
You got it Jeff. This guy is no man. If he would he should of stood up right after it came out not hide and have his speech writers and PR person come up with this crap. I like how he came out and said he was sorry. Sorry for what? That you got caught? He needs to man up and step down. He wants to work hard for Detroit. Yea and steroids isn't a problem in baseball. This thug needs to go. He needs to be jailed and have to repay the city back the 9 million he cost them with his lies. His wife is gonna dump his ass when he doesn't get re-elected. I agree the media should leave the kids alone. But since his wife wanted to be on the same phoney platform as the thug she opened herself up to the media.
January 31, 2008 6:39 AM
His attitude walking into the "church" was Thug Mayor, he stopped to talk to channel 4's reporter and then shoved Steve Wilson from channel 7!! THEN, when the camera came on, he was all sorry!! AS IF!!!
He was all, "I did it" "I am responsible" I (fill in the blank) then he trots out his wife!!
UGH!!!!!!!
January 31, 2008 8:08 AM
So I take it you are not a KK fan?
LOL..............
January 31, 2008 8:18 AM
You have to give the mayor credit. As much as you hate him and how corrupt he is, he is an amazing speaker and great politician. Think of the all the well-thought out political moves he did in the speech.
1. He had the speech in a church so no reporters would be there to bombard him with questions. (Of course, he was hiding behind his church and using God as leverage).
2. He had his "strong and courageous" wife speak and thereby gaining the sympathy of all the women who have gone through what she has gone though. (Using his wife and marriage for more leverage).
3. Used his family as leverage. Talking about how he had to talk to his sons about audultery. This way he tried getting sympathy from men/women who have gone through it.
4. Turning the tables on the media (that's you Jeff) and . . .
5. completely changing the subject at hand saying that this is a "Personal Matter".
6. Boasted of his mayoral duties and what he is going to accomplish.
He, of course, didn't apologize for firing 2 officers of the law with spotless records. Nor the lying in under oath. Nor the wasting of city funds. I was watching channel 4 and they interviewed the audience. All but 1 person was ready to take the mayor back with open arms. Unfortunately, he is a great speaker and knows how to manipulate an audience and city. To hell with it . . . I FORGIVE YOU KWAME!! BRING ON THE SCANDALS. IT'S MORE ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE SUBURBS.
January 31, 2008 8:58 AM
Wow , Kwamie and his wife want's private time to handle thier problems and they don't believe they should be judged by the media and all the papers and be looked upon, under a microscope... that is where they are wrong.
Kwamie brought this upon himself, he came in to the position of Mayor knowing that every little thing that he does good or bad is gonna be disected in every which way possible, but he still went out and did the things that he did.
This man has committed adultry, perjury, and the obstruction of justice, and he excpects people to not judge him.
They brought up the point that other people with problems could solve it in private and not have it all over the media .. once again not our choosing, Kwamie chose to be Mayor and his wife chose to be by his side, so everything that they do or say , will always be in the media and they knew this and chose this right from the beggining.
So for them to come on and ask the media for the privacy to patch things up is something that was in Kwamie's controll all the time .... and that would have been to do the right thing from the beginning and none of this would of happened. Now since he hasn't been able too do right with his family, God or the people of Detroit, maybe now is the chance ... so now he should start doing the right thing and start it off by stepping down and resigning.
Step up and be a real man that you keep telling us you are and do the right thing.
January 31, 2008 9:52 AM
What fokls are forgetting is that his dad was Coleman Young's Chief of Staff. Kwmae knows what he is doing.
If he can get the ministers behind him then he has the people.
January 31, 2008 9:57 AM
okay, stop....hold it...you cannot let a jackass like kwame scare you away from here...WE need you more than we need HIM.
even tho I live in a suburb, the rest of the world views me as living in detroit and I am associated with his elections...that creeps me out.
I knew he wasn't gonna bring up the real issues. I also knew that his speech would be written by the best speech writer the city of detroit could afford.
I could even hear the director calls in my head...."center on the mayor...slow pull out to show his wife.......quick, back to the mayor and catch that tear"
.
January 31, 2008 10:58 AM
Jeff, I feel your pain. Having lived in the Detroit area all my 50 years I've longed for the day we can be proud of our largest city. Sadly, I don't think it's gonna happen.
I remember the '67 riots. I remember my grandfather being shot in the arm on the way home from St John Hospital in 1969. A gun man was standing on a corner randomly
shooting at passer bys. I remember those painful 24 years of the Coleman Young administration. He would get on TV and swear like a drunken sailor. Embarrassing. Yet he kept getting reelected, over and over and fucking over.
I remember the hopeful years of Archer, then he gave up on the city and went back into the private sector. Can we blame him. And now this fool. Who elects a goof who wears 2 huge earrings ? The hip-hop people of the city of Detroit- that's who. And who reelects this goof after 4 years of controversy surrounding his first term ? The same stupid electorate- that's who.
How do I cope ? I look at it for what it is. A lost city. I go to Detroit to eat and take in a few hot spots like the Hard Rock and Comerica Park, then I leave and forget about it. We are dealing with people who vote based on some convoluted logic for who they allow to run their city.... and sadly I don't think anyone reading this blog will live long enough to see it change.

this is to 'anonymous' who brings up the demographics of detroit. yes, we (and jeff) all know it is primarily a black population of low income/little or no higher educated people. but, if memory serves, freeman hendrix was a black man running for mayor against kwame. the people of detroit, those with enough concern for their city who voted, made their decision solely based on familiarity and herd behavior. when, in the voting booth, they were presented with either a vote for hendrix or kwame, and decided at that moment that "well, i don't really know this hendrix guy, but i've known kwame and heard about him and he's one of us so i'm gonna vote for him.." plain and simple. when the masses are presented with a change, even a prospected positive change, they'll backslide and choose what/who they know, even if it means they choose a loser. this is what happened in detroit. race really has nothing to do with it. it's herd behavior and the inability to vote for a change.
January 31, 2008 12:19 PM
Jeff, it's nice to see swearing. after a decade of radio speak, I like see you use the word "fucking" so eleqountly.
also BOOOBS.
hey man, everyone else said what there is to say about Kwame.
January 31, 2008 1:07 PM
Last night, they interviewed some Detroiter and he said that he forgives Kwame and that he deserves a second chance...second chance? Second chance? Didn't he already get one of those...isn't he on his fourth or fifth chance? Are the citizens of Detroit blind or just that f'n dumb. It makes me sick. Why was Archer an Uncle Tom because he got along with the suburbs (read whitey) and he was just not popular. Then you have thug-life here and rapes the city, but since he's a real "brother" he's embraced andcan do no wrong. The city and its citizens deserve whatever they reap. I'm out.
January 31, 2008 1:16 PM
I hear Arizona is nice.
And, to agree with another poster, when you saw kwAm (rhymes with "blame") shove Steve Wilson on Ch 2 it WAS MUCH HARDER than it looked on Ch7. Much harder, like he would have surely beat him had cameras not been around. He's sorry...yep, REAL SORRY! Crook, cheat, thug, murderer...that's our Mayor!!
January 31, 2008 1:45 PM
Kwame voted Loser of the day by MSNBC. Hilarious! We only got Bronze though. I was hoping to go for gold

"I'd like to stay in the Detroit area, but if this guy should be re-elected after this I will seriously question my decision, for what kind of future could an area have when the self-respect isn't there."
I don't know what you're expecting out of the voters, but all voters seem to do the dumbest damn thing, whether it's a jury, detroit, michigan, or the U.S.A.
As shining examples of each, I point to the OJ verdict, re-electing Coleman A. Young 97 times and Kilpatrick once (so far), re-electing Granholm, and re-electing Dubya.
If you're going to leave an area due to voter stupidity, I suggest exploring nations other than the U.S.
January 31, 2008 2:22 PM
This scandal only scratches the surface. Any one who still supports this mayor needs to hang out at his office and watch the parade of characters in their Don Cherry suits and Superfly hats file through his office. All business and contracts in the city are a result of how much the city leadership is getting greased on the side. The narcissistic mayor and his entourage fully enjoy and use their power for personal gain to the fullest extent. Given the opportunity (a.k.a. "another chance")the lies, deceit, and questionable dealings will continue and this scandal will simply be a hiccup in Kwame's fiefdom.
January 31, 2008 2:43 PM
My favorite part is when dickbreath said "This Is a Private Matter Between Me, My Family And My God". What about the city he screwed out of 90 mill? And what about the Badges that lost their job? OH and there's that navigator thing ,that must be between them too.
January 31, 2008 4:33 PM
it is not a personal issue when he is BLOWING OUR MONEY to cover his fat ass! what a coward to hide in church so he does not have to answer the real questions. I PRAY CHARGES ARE BROUGHT UP ON THIS LYING THEIF! has anyone heard that the stripper actually got in a fight with the "first lady" two days before kwame had her "whacked"?
how about a beaver and rudy update?
rudy is still a homo!
January 31, 2008 4:38 PM
Jeff,
Great commentary and you're right on everything.
Most of his speech was COMPLETELY and totally irrelevant to the issues at hand. Consider things as a good, unbiased judge might:
If you think about things in completely logical terms...who CARES about his kids, his wife, personal issues, etc. The man lied under oath in a court of law and wasted millions of the city's precious dollars.
And on a lighter tho irrelavant note: On some of my old files, I just stumbled upon the pic of you (Jeff) with the tiger in the studio....and recall Doyle's comment having a tiger in the studio was a career highlight for him.
There were of course, many moments like that...as well as the more serious ranting moments such as there would be NOW!
What can I say that hasnt already been said?
It wasn't just a great show, it was cutting (er clawing!) edge.
Bob

Has anyone nominated Kwame for a night time Emmy award yet? Or an Oscar? With the performance he gave, he could certainly give the biggest Hollywood actors a run for the money.
Nice F-bomb Jeff. Love it.
January 31, 2008 6:34 PM
Jeff:
You really hit the nail on head - IT IS NOT ABOUT THE AFFAIR!!! I'm a trial attorney, so I closely followed the wrongful termination case that the officers brought against the City and Kwame. You would not believe how these poor officers' names were dragged through the mud by Kwame and the City throughout the litigation. They were called liars with a vendetta. Their mental health was questioned extensively. Their lives were ruined by Kwame. This case had been going on for years before the trial without any intention by Kwame to settle it. Turns out Kwame was the liar (big surprise). The citizens of the City are paying for it now! It's really sad.
Miss you, Doyle, Rudy and he Beav! Hope to hear you guys again soon! Thanks - Christina

Very well said. I couldn't possibly agree more.

January 31, 2008 10:28 PM
Can you people think back to when Young was mayor? Is there any other reason that ANY businesses moved into Detroit in the last ten years than the election of Mr. Archer? Please...
I hope to attend my 20th reunion of UofD Jesuit High this year. I did not graduate from the institution, but I knew a lot of very intelligent people who were born and bred here. How can there not be another Dennis Archer in that group? Unfortunately I am a bit too pale. Being a graduate of UofD (no Mercy involved), I can truly say say some of the best times of my life have happened in the city of Detroit.
Speaking of that, Jeff, this is truly a treat to check into your blog. This post at first had me thinking "this man needs to write a book, he really fine-tunes his thoughts while typing" and then at the end I thought "he should have a disclaimer on the site and really let the vernacular fly"
Thanks for being a very vocal human being.
January 31, 2008 11:00 PM
I too miss you guys being on the air. I listen to XM comedy on the way home now since there is nothing to compare to D&D on the air. 97.1 lost the presets in my cars.
Anyway, yes, Michigan got a double dose on the news today... thug mayor and a fight with mace at Chuck E. Cheese in Flint. Nice image. A "pimp named Kwame" definitely lives the part even outside of the state where most have no idea who he is. I ran into him one night while travelling outside the state and told my wife that the posse that walked into the restaurant where we were looked like Kwame and crew. She laughed until we went outside to see the Escalade and Suburban sitting in the handicapped parking spots running with the MI Govt "X" plates on 'em. Would have been better to see the local cops putting tickets on 'em. But then again, the taxpayers would have had to pay those tickets.
January 31, 2008 11:22 PM
Jeff,
It's so nice to hear your commentary!! You always get it right. If only we could hear it in person. Did we expect anything else from this "thug"? I watched it and I regret to say that I'll never get those 15 minutes back. What a waste of my time. I can't believe there were so many people feeling sorry for him. What a joke. He thinks he is untouchable in his Navigator and all and punching reporters. Give this man an Oscar, he sure knows how to play Detroit!
I miss you guys!! D & D for Mayor!!

Anyone else picking up on this story about Kilpatrick subtly accusing Karen Drew of being a racist? According to WDET, Drew asked the mayor about Candia Milton owing back taxes to the city--and KK's response basically was that she asked the question because Candia Milton is black and a Detroiter. I didn't see Channel 4 today--but those that did said they didn't mention the run-in--gave it the same level attention they gave her run-in with the EPU at the City-County Building. What the heck is going on? Man, there must be some "discussions" in the DIV newsroom if she's out digging on this story and they're choosing not to run it. Regardless, this is a classic Coleman Young move, it was about time KK played this card.
February 1, 2008 8:29 PM
It was just reported on ABC's sunday morning show "Spotlight", a recent poll shows if Kwame was up for reelection today, over 50% of the people of Detroit would reelect him.

when i shop at a dollar store for something specific and it breaks my friends say "you get what you pay for" ... well detroiters voted for a coleman young jr. and now "they got what they voted for. " i dont feel sorry for them at all. ill just sit back and watch the city fall further into its downward spiral !!!!!

A lil obsessed with a corrupt balckman? I mean do you hold corrupt whites to this standard?? Cause they number 10 fold. Sorry just and observation since the last 4 posts are about Kwame. (and no I do not think its ok, but maybe look at the fedral goverment and hold them to the same standard)
February 4, 2008 4:11 PM
1. Really dig a place to tune in to D &d(kinda ,Jeff, needs his Bill as yen needs yang or it is just a black dot)
2. NO MORE DUMP BUTTON we get the uncensored D&D.
February 6, 2008 10:52 AM
Obsessed??? (directed towards the anonymous comment on Feb. 4) I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the last four posts have been about that Joke of a Mayor because we're in Detroit and it's a Detroit issue. Screw the Federal Government! this Thug is directly affecting everybody who lives in or visits the city everyday! I think everyone should be talking about it. Also, I definitely don't think white people discussing the black mayor makes us racists, and anybody who assumes that is, well... stupid.
Since this crap is still all over the news, Jeff, I hope you post some more comments about this idiot, it's always good to hear your opinion.
It's not the same without you guys, take care.
February 6, 2008 11:52 AM
OMG, I come back everyday and reread the old posts, I feel like I'm in a "best of" week.
Jeff, where are you?
